Science Club Summer Camp

Teachers and Students Learning Together

Teachers: Summer 2024 applications are now closed.

Science Club Summer Camp is a new STEM education program.

Teachers learn how to implement the Next Generation Science Standards by leading a hands-on Boys & Girls Club summer camp; kids learn fun, authentic science concepts and build STEM skills.

3rd GRADE TEACHERS

Build Science Teaching Skills & Confidence

Learn new approaches to teaching the Next Generation Science Standards. Explore the NGSS-aligned CPS science curriculum and trial new activities with eager, age-appropriate learners at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago summer camp. Build a support network of like-minded teachers and scientists.

Learn from the Experts

Experienced CPS science teachers and Northwestern University scientists support participants with training and practical resources tailored to the Next Generation Science Standards. Visit real research spaces and learn more about authentic science.

Get School Year Support

Science Club Summer Camp staff help teachers bring the new curriculum to their classrooms through 1-2 classroom visits and regular Professional Learning Community meetings.

3rd GRADE YOUTH

Interactive Fun

Conquer interesting science and engineering challenges. Work together with other kids to conduct experiments and design solutions to real-world problems. Learn to collaborate in the safe, welcoming, and youth-centered environment of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago. Field trips, art activities, and fun games are included, too!

Earn a Scholarship

Youth who participate in Science Club Summer Camp qualify for a scholarship at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago. Scholarships cover registration fees for summer camp and allow youth to participate in summer camp all week long.

Field Trips, Art, and So Much More!

Included in the summer camp fee are a range of other activities. In addition to science, the club offers programs in art, athletics, cooking and other fun activities. There are also field trips to museums, zoos, amusement parks and water parks!

AUTHENTIC & ENGAGING

Scientists and engineers are incredibly curious people. They wonder about how things work and conduct experiments to learn more about the world. Once they figure things out, they use and share their knowledge to solve real world problems.

High quality science education should give students the same chance to explore their curiosity. Science Club Summer Camp helps teachers learn how to use student questions to drive learning and to integrate hands-on activities that help students find their own answers.

WHAT OUR TEACHERS ARE SAYING

Participating in the Science Club Summer Camp program this year has definitely given me the confidence to teach science this upcoming year. Not only am I more familiar with the NGSS standards, but I’m also excited about the subject!

I learned that teachers shouldn’t feel that they always need to know the answer. Kids taking charge of their learning makes their learning authentic, real, and, hopefully, permanent.
